Just\u00a0crush a couple ostracods (a spoon and flat surface or small bowl work great). Leave the powder in the bowl or put powder into your hand. Add a bit of water and watch it\u00a0glow! Since ostracods\u00a0are costly, we\u00a0use a couple at a time and have the entire group see the demonstration.<\/p>\n<p>However, if you have a larger budget, you could let\u00a0small groups crush\u00a0the ostracods, add the water&#8230;write down and\/or discuss the outcome. Or have them put a couple between two class slides with a drop of water.
